Since I've been writing erotica, I've tried to tap into female fantasies of what makes a man sexy. Thing is, there are so many facets to sexy. Even limiting myself to physical attributes, the possibilities are endless. One thing many women have definite preferences about is hair. Dark hair, light hair, curly, straight, long, short. Some women even prefer their men completely bald.
In writing erotica, details like body hair are more important than they would be in less explicit romance genres. I always write my heroes as having a hairless or nearly hairless chest. I didn't set out to purposely do this, it just happened. Yet my heroes' other qualities are all over the chart. My current manuscript features a man from Trinidad with long braids. The last one had a cop type with a military style buzz (who bore an uncanny resemblance to DH).
I remember reading a book recently where the hero had lots of chest hair, yet the author had made him sexy enough in other ways that I didn't mind. As long as he's not so hairy that if he took his shirt off, someone from PETA would spray him with paint! Furry=unsexy. For me, body hair is rather important in the sexy-o-meter. What about you? What physical characteristic calls to you?
