Berlin Diary of Lady Eve Marlowe: Else’s Story

On November 11th, we celebrate our veterans.

But mothers are also veterans of war. Here is a story about such a mother written by Lady Eve Marlowe, the heroine in my novel, Cleopatra’s Perfume.

Before Lady Eve married a member of the British peerage, she was a cabaret dancer in Berlin in the late 1920s during the wild days of the Weimar Republic.

The scene in what I call a “story vid” (story video) takes place after one of the girls in the show is murdered and Eve goes to visit her mother.

Happy Veterans Day!

I loved your "video story"

Thank you, Wynter. I wanted to show a different side of war through the eyes of a mother caught in the middle.

Brenda, I'm glad you like the story video. I came up with this idea as a way to combine pictures (showing items that relate to the story, like the German postcards or Else's dancing shoes and the old German magazine) to create a visual with the audio. It's quite a challenge to put it all together!

Jina, my son signed up for the air force on September 10, 2001. We, along with everyone else in the world, found ourselves glued to the TV the very next morning.

Dalton, I cannot imagine the anguish that you must have felt as a mother that day...but also the pride in your son. Happy Veterans Day to both of you!
