New Release! A COP, HIS WIFE AND HER BEST FRIEND - the third book in my Badge Bunnies Series!

I'm so excited to announce that A COP, HIS WIFE AND HER BEST FRIEND, the third book in my hot Badge Bunnies Series, is now available!

With the popularity of my bestselling menage stories Kareigh's Cowboys, And The Ranch Hand Makes Three, and most recently Two Cops A Girl And A Pair Of Handcuffs, I knew I wanted to write another menage for this series. I wanted to do something a little different, though, so I did a F/F/M instead of my usual M/F/M. And I gotta say, I had fun with it! LOL! While it's still mostly about the guy and the two girls, there are a few sexy surprises!  Along with handcuffs and some yummy spankings! Hope you like it!

Happy Reading!

Capri Faraday hasn't seen her old college roommate in years, so she's thrilled to be able to spend her vacation with Aly and her hot, hunky cop husband, Sam. When she gets to Tampa, she sees a side of her friend she's never seen before - her backside, while Aly is draped over Sam's knee getting a spanking. Capri is stunned. She's even more shocked to discover that watching Aly get her bottom warmed turns her on like crazy.

After Aly confesses she likes getting spanked for being a bad girl, Capri talks her friend into doing something naughty just so she can watch Sam redden her derriere again. But when it comes out that Capri was behind the whole thing, she finds herself bare-bottomed and getting spanked alongside her best friend. If she thought watching Aly getting a spanking got her hot and bothered, that's nothing compared to getting one herself!

Excerpt:

They were in the same dressing room trying on clothes when Capri caught sight of the barely discernible red marks crisscrossing Aly’s ass cheeks at the edges of her tiny bikini panties. Capri caught her friend’s arm and turned her back to the lights above the full-length mirror so she could get a closer look. She almost reached out to run her fingers over them, but stopped herself just in time.

“I can’t believe you still have marks from last night,” she said.

Aly looked over her shoulder at her reflection. “The strap always leaves marks. It’s one of the reasons I love Sam to spank me with it.”

Capri studied them again. “They look really sexy. Can you feel them?”

“When I sit down. A good strapping can do that even though Sam never smacks my ass harder than I can take. That's the best part of getting strapped. Feeling it the next day and remembering how hot the sex was. It keeps me excited for a few days afterward.”

Capri was still marveling at that as they tried on shoes a little while later. She and Aly both fell in love with the same pair. High heels with sexy straps, they were absolutely beautiful. But they are also crazy expensive.

“You should get them,” Capri said impulsively.

Aly looked up from the shoes she'd been admiring in the mirror. “Are you nuts? I can't afford these. I could pay for a top of the line sink for what they're charging for these things. Sam would flip out.”

“I didn’t say you should keep them. You can always bring them right back and get a full refund. After they've served their purpose, of course.”

Aly glared at her. “And what purpose is that? Getting me in trouble?”

Capri didn’t answer. Probably because she couldn’t believe the direction her thoughts were taking. It seemed Aly wasn’t the only one who liked being a bad girl.

Aly’s eyes went wide. “Oh, my God. You're trying to get me spanked again so you can watch!”

Capri cringed. “Why don’t you say it a little louder, Aly? I don't think they heard you down at the food court.”

Her friend pulled off the shoes and tossed them back in the box. “But that is what you're doing, isn't it? Trying to give Sam a reason to whack my ass again so you can watch and play with yourself?”

Hearing Aly put it so bluntly made Capri’s face heat. Her friend wasn't wrong. That was exactly the thought that had crept into her naughty head. “Yes. But it sounds pretty bad when you say it like that. Forget I said anything.”

Aly stood there regarding her for so long Capri blushed all over again. “So you really want to watch me get spanked again?”

Capri nodded.

“Okay. Then I'm up for it.” Aly pointed a finger at her. “But you have to promise to stay for the whole thing. I want to know you're watching me the entire time, and that includes the sex afterward.”

Capri felt like Aly had just given her an extra special Christmas present. She jumped up and hugged her friend. “Deal. But only if you're sure Sam won't freak out too much about the shoes. I don't want to get you into any serious trouble.”

“He won't. Besides, if he gets too upset, I can always tell him it was all your idea.”

Capri laughed. “Very funny.”

She and Aly giggled about their plan all the way home. Underneath the laughter, however, the sexual tension was palpable. Capri’s clit tingled so much, she had to rub her thighs together to keep from going insane.

The moment they got home, Aly put the shopping bag in the living room,
positioning it perfectly to make sure Sam couldn't miss it. The store they’d purchased the shoes from used fancy bags with their name on them, so he’d know right away that his wife had spent some serious change. To be on the safe side, Aly placed the sales receipt right on top.

“I’m getting spanked, guaranteed.” Aly grinned. “God, I'm so excited.”

“Me, too,” Capri admitted. “I can't believe we're really doing this.”

“We?” Aly laughed as she took vegetables and beef tips out of the fridge. “You plan on getting spanked with me?”

“Of course not!”

“Didn’t think so.” Aly turned on the oven. “You know, this will be the third night in a row that I've gotten spanked. I'm going to have one hell of a sore bottom tomorrow.”

Capri would have felt bad if her friend wasn’t practically pinging off the wall in anticipation. Aly couldn't wait for her hunk-of-a-cop husband to punish her while Capri watched. She wrapped her arms around her friend and gave her a hug.

“Poor Aly. Don't worry. I'll rub lotion on your bottom afterward.”

Aly’s lips curved. “Don't think I won't remind you of that promise.”

While she couldn’t resist teasing her friend, Capri was just as eager for Sam to get home. She could barely concentrate on helping Aly make dinner.

“Do you think Sam will want to spank you the moment he gets home?” she asked as Aly put the casserole dish in the oven.

Aly shook her head. “Not with you here. He’ll do it when we go to bed.”

Capri didn’t know if she could wait that long.

Her friend refilled their glasses with iced tea. “We don't want to look too obvious when Sam comes in. That could blow the whole deal. Remember to look natural.”

“Will he use the strap on you again?” Capri asked.

“Probably not. At least not the strap you saw.” Aly put the pitcher back in the fridge. “Sam never likes to use any particular spanking implement too often. He doesn't want me to get bored with it, you know? He'll pick something different.”

Capri’s eyes widened. “Exactly how many spanking implements do you guys have?”

“Oh! I forgot you haven't seen our collection.” She grabbed Capri's hand and pulled her toward the stairs. “Come on. I’ll show it to you. If you like one, maybe I can steer Sam in that direction.”

Upstairs, Aly led her into the big walk-in closet. She pushed aside the clothes that hung from an upper rack, revealing an entire wall of spanking implements. The array was bewildering.

“There are so many. How do you ever choose which one to use?”

“Sam always picks for me, and he's never wrong.” Aly took a wooden paddle off its hook. It was so highly polished, it looked like glass. “This one is my favorite. It doesn't look it, but it’s heavy. It doesn't leave a smack as much as it does a solid thud when it
hits my ass. I feel it all the way to my toes when he gets me good with it.”

Capri took the paddle from her friend and tested its weight. “You’re right. It is heavier than it looks.”

Before she even realized what she was doing, she reached around and
experimentally smacked herself on the ass with the paddle. She didn't do it very hard, but she still felt it through her jeans. Yikes, that thing was dangerous. Aly must have a tough bottom.

She handed it back to her friend. “That’s way too much for me.”

“I agree.” Aly hung it back up. “It’s definitely not something a novice should start with.”

Capri laughed. “Hey! You're the one getting the spanking, remember? I'm the one hiding behind the door playing with herself.”

“I know.” Aly reached for another paddle. This one was wider, but much thinner, kind of like a ping pong paddle. “I was just telling you in case you decide to buy yourself some paddles. When you find the right guy, I mean.”

“Right. Like a good spanker comes along every day.”

They spent the next fifteen minutes trying out the different paddles, crops, straps and whips in Aly’s collection. Capri almost asked Aly to give her a few smacks with each of them, but just the thought made her blush. Then she imagined Sam spanking her, and her face colored even more.

She couldn’t stop oohing and aahing over how different they all felt. Her bottom was tingling nicely by the time she handed the last paddle back to Aly, and she was tempted to push down her jeans and sneak a peek at her ass in the full length mirror on the wall to see if it was red.

Aly regarded her thoughtfully. “I wouldn’t have thought it, but I’d say you're a strap girl.”

“You think so?” Capri eyed the long, brown leather strap Sam had used on Aly the night before. “Maybe so. It does leave a nice heat as it wraps around during the swing.”

She swung her gaze around to Aly. “But that was with me using it on myself. I'm sure it’d sting much more if someone used it on me.” Like Sam. “Not that I intend to find out, of course.”

“Of course,” Aly agreed.

As her friend pushed the clothes back over the wall that held her toys, a flash of something silver caught Capri’s attention. She reached out and pushed aside one of Aly's sun dresses to reveal a pair of chrome-plated handcuffs dangling from a hook.

“Why are Sam’s handcuffs in here with your spanking stuff?” Capri couldn't take her eyes off them. They were like jewelry.

Aly laughed. “They’re not his work handcuffs. They’re for me. Even though I loved getting spanked, I sometimes have a habit of reaching back to cover my ass. I do it without thinking. Sam doesn't like it. He's afraid he'll whack my hand or arm and hurt me. He’ll cuff me so I can’t reach back.”

Capri remembered hearing Sam ask Aly if she needed to be restrained during the strapping he’d given her last night.

“Sometimes I put my hands back on purpose just so he'll cuff me,” Aly admitted.

“Being held captive like that is a mind-bender.”

Capri stared at the cuffs, entranced. Just the thought of having them on her wrists was making her so wet she had to fight the urge to shove her hands down her jeans and touch herself.

“We’d better get back downstairs,” Aly said. “Sam'll be home soon.”

Her friend’s timing was impeccable. They weren't in the kitchen for more than five minutes before Capri heard the sounds of Sam's cruiser pulling up.

Aly grinned. “Show time.”

How could she be so calm? Capri felt as if she was about to explode.
Capri’s breath hitched as the door opened. If Sam walked right past the shoes, the set-up was a bust. That was a serious possibility. How many men would notice a shopping bag?

But Sam stopped in the living room. A moment later, Capri heard the bag rustle.

Aly winked. “Score!”

“Alyssa, what the hell are these?” Sam demanded.

“Here we go.” Aly wiped the grin off her face and walked into the living room, motioning Capri to follow.

Capri obeyed, but slowed the moment she saw Sam's face. He looked absolutely intimidating standing there in his uniform with his arms crossed over his chest. He also looked extremely perturbed. Maybe this hadn't been such a bright idea. What if he and Aly ended up having a fight over the shoes instead? That wouldn’t be very sexy.

Sam held up the sales receipt. “Alyssa, what the hell is this?”

“The receipt for the new shoes I bought today.” Aly took the box out of the shopping bag and lifted the lid. “Aren't they gorgeous?”

Sam scowled. “No, they're not gorgeous. They're two weeks’ worth of savings down the drain. Alyssa, we talked about this.”

Aly put on a crestfallen face. “I guess I screwed up again, huh?”

“Yeah, Aly. You did.”

She caught her lower lip between her teeth and looked up at him from underneath her lashes. Damn, Aly was good at this.

“Are you going to spank me?” she asked softly.

Sam did a double take. He looked pointedly at Capri, then arched a brow at his wife. Aly waved a hand in Capri’s direction.

“Don't mind Capri. I told you, we share everything. She knows all about my spankings.”

Sam went from surprised to looking downright shocked. “Does she? Well then, I guess she won't mind if I take you upstairs right now to give you the spanking you so richly deserve?”

Aly’s eyes went wide. “Right now?”

“Right now. The spanking I have in mind for you won't wait.” He turned his gaze on Capri. “I hope you won't mind if dinner is a little late?”

“Of course not,” Capri murmured.

She could hardly wait until Sam led Aly upstairs so she could follow. The fact that he knew she knew Aly was going to get spanked was so damn sexy she could barely stand it.

Aly hung back when Sam took her hand. “I don't think I should be the only one getting spanked, Sam. Capri is way more to blame for this than I am. I wasn't going to buy the shoes, but she said it was none of your business what I do with my money. I tried to tell her we were saving up to remodel the kitchen, but she was in full I-amwoman-hear-me-roar mode and wouldn't let up. The whole store was looking at us, including the security guard. I ended up buying the shoes just to keep us from being tossed out. If I’m getting spanked, so should she.”

Capri gaped. What the hell was Aly saying, this was all her fault That hadn't been the plan.

Fun With Veggies

Ever have one of those days where everything you see and hear seems phallic? Whaaaat? Not since you were a Tween? Well, that's about my maturity level today.

Fair warning: you may never tell your kids to eat their veggies again.

We'll start with one of my faves, which I did post before. It's worth mentioning again to get the, er, balls rolling. Stuck the thing in my shopping cart and walked all over with it before deciding to just snap a pic. I just couldn't imagine bringing it home.

Miss the initial post? It's a horseradish root. Mother Nature has a wonderfully warped sense of humor.

Which brings us to the next one, found (and held) by the one and only The Sherry at a BJ's. Yes, BJ's. Let those jokes begin. She certainly did. I don't think the young man working the veggie section will ever be the same.

Unfortunately, I can't remember what this is. I assure you it is not, however, a dildo or petrified dog doo.

And finally, nature at its finest. This was in a bag of baby carrots that I dumped into a salad. It ended up on my mother's plate, so really, it's her fault for noticing. Hey, I did say MY mother, not Stud's. Yes, I'm the one who stuck it in the mashed potatoes, but only because it wouldn't stay erect without a firm grip at its base.  ; )

You don't believe it's not staged? Need another view? Here you go.

I love Mother Nature.

Snarky Sex Jokes

What if.... is a favorite exercize for writers. Recently I've been browsing a reference book for verbal sparring called The Snark Handbook by Lawrence Dorfman. I paused at the section about sex. After which I wondered, what if I wrote a character into my stories whose quirk was to tell sexual jokes all of the time. Could I make this guy interesting? Anything but annoying? Or what if it was a woman...much less typical a scenario. So this idea has joined the endless list of ideas with which to play if I actually get off my butt and start to write more.

In the meantime, here's some material I'll store away for this hypothetical character:

Sex without love is an empty experience, but as empty experiences go, it's a pretty good one. --Woody Allen

You know "that look" women get when they want sex? Me neither. --Steve Martin

I had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalog. "No good in a bed, but fine against a wall." --Eleanor Roosevelt

Why did God create men? Because vibrators can't mow the lawn. --Madonna

God gives men a brain and a penis, and only enough blood to run one at a time. --Robin Williams

I said I could make love for eight hours. What I didn't say was that this included four hours of begging and tehn dinner and a movie. --Sting

Sex is not the answer. Sex is the question. "Yes" is the answer.

Cool off in the Summer Heat

By: Casey Crow

So it's about 100 degrees here in the deep south and we don't even consider this the height of summer. Luckily, I've found this tasty treat to cool things off.

A Quickie Blog on “Breaking the Rules” and why it’s FREE today

Do you love a quickie?

Oh, you say, you mean hot, sweaty sex with my man? Down and dirty and do-it-to-me before the kids come home or my mother calls back. (God help me if she tracks the GPS on my cell phone to the bedroom).

No…not exactly.

I mean quickie shorts.

Oh, you say again, you mean the shorts that cut into my butt crack that I haven’t been able to zip up since high school?

No…still not right.

I mean a quick fix for what ails you.

Oh, you say, trying again, biting on a hangnail, you mean a mocha cookie crumble frappuccino®?

No…but you’re making me crazy for a quick trip to Starbucks after I finish writing this blog, so I’ll make it short.

As in Short Story.

Today is International Short Story Day. According to their website: “On the shortest night of the year, June 20th 2012, writers, readers and publishers are again joining forces to celebrate the short story on International Short Story Day.”

To celebrate, I’ve listed my erotic short story “Breaking the Rules” as FREE on Amazon Kindle.

Elaine is a rules-kind-of-girl, whether it’s at work or in the bedroom. She sets out on a journey of self-discovery when she meets the Hunter, who shows her that rules are made to be broken.

This erotic short story is about a working girl who learns you have to ask for what you want.

At work...or in bed.

Excerpt

He whispered in her ear what he wanted her to do, and it was naughty, so naughty. In response, she pushed her pussy up toward him in rhythmic thrusts, allowing her to get lost in the moment. Elaine didn’t care what happened as long as he continued to rub her hard bud glowing deep within her. The sensations were almost more than she could bear, her body swaying back and forth, reeling with the sublime pleasure this man gave her.
“Oh, it feels good, so good,” she moaned.
“Do you want me to keep going, Elaine?” asked the Hunter, slowing down. The burning flame inside her started to ebb…flicker. “I can stop, if you’re uncomfortable.”
She froze. No, he couldn’t do that to her. He couldn’t! Not when she was experiencing such delicious sensations.
“I--I…” she sputtered. Nothing more came out.
Say it, girl! Tell him you want him to keep going.
But she couldn’t.
For all her bravado, Elaine couldn’t ask for what she wanted.

Writing a short story is an art, like making a soufflé or perfect scrambled eggs or giving your man oral sex that drives him crazy. Here are some short story writers whose works are timeless:

Edgar Allan Poe, who wrote sixty-five short stories, including The Pit and the Pendulum; O. Henry’s witty shorts, including The Last Leaf; F. Scott Fitzgerald, who coined the term the Jazz Age; Dorothy Parker’s timeless lament of every single girl, The Telephone Call; and my personal fave, Anita Loos, whose Gentleman Prefer Blondes began as a series of short stories in Harper’s Bazaar with a naughty chick heroine named Lorelei Lee.

So the next time you want a quickie, let your fingers do the work (and his, too, if you’re into that while you’re reading), and download a short story.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I hear there’s a frappuccino® with my name on it waiting for me…

Ciao and happy reading!

The Unforgivable Sins

SinIn Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Mad-Eye Moody taught Harry and his classmates about the Unforgivable Curses. There was the Cruciatus Curse for torture, the Imperius Curse for mind control and the Killing Curse for, uh, killing. The use of these curses without proper authorization by the Ministry of Magic was strictly forbidden and the wielder could end up sentenced to Azkaban for life. Holy Dementor, Batman! Yes, they meant business.

Like Harry’s world has those Unforgivable Curses that will wreck a life, there are certain Unforgivable Sins that a hero or heroine can do in a book that seriously wrecks the entire book for me. Wreck it like a swinging, iron ball just slammed right into it. Wreck it like a backhoe came and bulldozed it down. Wreck it like red velvet cake on a Weight Watchers diet.

Unforgivable #1: I read a book where a hero slept with another woman after he’d met and bonded with the heroine. The author made a good argument why, and logically, I understood…but that romantic, fidelity-above-all-else-I-feel-you-Lorena-Bobbitt heart of mine did not. And the hero lost his integrity and even his attractiveness in my eyes. I couldn’t get past the fact that he’d given himself to another woman. He’d dirtied not just his body but his hero’s soul. And I couldn’t finish the book. I felt betrayed by him, even if the heroine No cheatingapparently did not. Unforgivable.

Unforgivable #2: As I’ve mentioned before, one of my absolute favorite books is Son of the Morning by Linda Howard. One of the many reasons is the worthiness of the heroine. That sounds so chauvinistic, doesn’t it? But I can’t put it any other way. Niall was this hard, strong, sensual warrior forged in the fires of battle and betrayal. He was loyal and faithful to the core—tender yet merciless. Grace was a scholar, an archeologist academic. Yet there existed in her a tireless core of strength and justice that drove her to lengths that would have cracked most people. She didn’t have the physical power of Niall, but the heart and spirit—she was more than a match. What’s unforgivable for me is when a heroine or hero proves themselves unworthy or unredeemable. That doesn’t sound possible, right? If they weren’t redeemable, they would be the villain. But not true. I read a novel where the heroine spewed so much ignorant, bigoted rhetoric, that by half way through the book, I detested her. I understood that her views came out of a place of ignorance and hurt, but I didn’t care. Especially since the hero received a good portion of that stupidity. She was not worthy of the hero, who was sensitive, patient and kind. To me, she had a brain but didn’t use it. Had a heart but didn’t listen to it. She had a soul but didn’t recognize it in another. And by the time she did, I frankly didn’t care. Unforgivable.

Unforgivable #3: I speak of characters as if they’re real people instead of just made-up figments of imagination on a page—or eReader. Well to me, they are. And the qualities I find irritating in people, annoy the stank out of me in heroes and heroines. Weakness. It’s ironic, because a guaranteed sell for me is if a heroine is soft-spoken or kind of introverted…in the beginning of the book. I love reading about women who have suffered something that has shaken their self-confidence. Traveling that journey with them as they discover their voice again is a joy of mine. *Let me add here, that even though these women may be cowed, they’re not broken and are spiritual giants for coming through their battles!* But a heroine who just takes crap shoveled out to her by the heroine or a scorned lover, or the hero’s scorned lover is unforgivable to me. Grow a backbone! Grab some cajones quick! Weakness is not romantic. It’s not admirable. A person can be soft-spoken and still have a spine of steel. She can be quiet and possess a wealth of self-respect. If not…unforgivable!

Do you have any unpardonable sins that just makes you want to deck a hero or heroine? Share ‘em! Let’s dish!

Summertime - Yeah!

It's almost here! The summer is officially only two days away! Ever since I was a kid I've loved the hot weather, the relaxed schedule, the total lack of responsibilities. Well, okay -- I do have responsibilities that don't take a vacation, but you know what I mean.

Summer means vacations for lots of people and vacations mean beach reads. With the rise of ebook readers beach reads can now include erotic romance.

Gone are the days when respectable wives and mothers wouldn't be seen with a risque romance cover. Don't you love the privacy ebook readers give us?

I have a few go-to authors for my beach reads -- Mary Kay Andrews, Fern Michaels, Karen Kelley. I love light, fun books I know will give me that warm fuzzy feeling at the end. Even better -- give me a whole series of light, fun books.

And just in case you need a recommendation, my latest series from Ellora's Cave, Wanton Weston Women delivers with some tropical locales and some steamy sex;-)

Okay, so dish -- what are your favorite beach reads?

Fabulous Fathers

It's Fathers Day and I wish every fine man who is considered a good father a wonderful day--whether or not you planted the seed that grew. You deserve it.

I understand some people have absolutely terrific fathers. Thank goodness these unsung heroes exist. There are too many of the other kind that make the local news. My own relationship with my father was...complex. When I was little he was my hero and I was daddy's little girl. As I grew up things changed. I was no longer adorable. In fact, as a teen I could be downright--ahem--challenging. (Who me?) Oh, yeah. Add to that the irksome truth that my dad and I were very much alike and uh-oh...powder keg. (Why, oh why, couldn't I have taken after my laid-back mother instead of my Type A father?)

Sure, there was that time he threatened to change the locks if I walked out that door--and of course I slammed it on my way out...but the locked weren't changed when I came home and all was forgiven shortly after. Oddly enough, we rarely talked these things through or apologized afterward. We simply understood that we had both acted like a**holes and didn't belabor the point.

Yet even though I drove him crazy, he was always there for me. He was a good provider. That term seems ridiculously inadequate. The man went to work every day without complaint, and he not only put food on the table and clothes on my back, but he also paid for my college education not once, not twice, but three times!

Between college experiences number one and number two, I came home with an infant. Other men might have said, "You made your bed...buy your own sheets," but not my dad. Without any discussion or demands, he provided for my daughter too. All I can say is, thank goodness my daughter took after my mom and not me or my dad!

She had some father issues too. Her bio father rejected her outright. Good riddance. He didn't deserve her. My second husband adopted her when she was six. He was, and continues to be, a wonderful dad. Not perfect, but pretty darn good. It wasn't her fault he and I didn't work out, but he and she did. My third (and final) husband is a good friend to her. He entered the picture when she was 13. He didn't want kids of his own, so he considered it a perfect situation. Someone else had done the hard part. He could just enjoy a great kid, take her to amusement parks, teach her how to drive and watch her turn into a terrific young lady.
When she has a problem, she's more apt to call him than me! Just like my dad, he's always there for her.

So, whether or not your father could have been the star of a 1950's TV show, there are probably good things you can find to say about him. I don't know if I thanked my dad properly while he was alive or not. I have the feeling he knew he did a good job. Still, I kind of wish I had made that clear.

If you're going to see your father today, sometime between the barbeque and dessert, be sure to tell him thank you for something specific. You'll make his day.

Lori Foster Get Together!

The Lori Foster Get Together is my most favorite conference to go to! It's casual and fun, and best of all, I get to hang out with friends!

The Get Together officially starts on Friday, but my hubby and I like to get there on Thursday so we can have dinner with the fantastic Moni Draper (aka author Monette Michaels) and her husband. Afterward, we came back to the hotel and hung out, where we met up with author and fellow Romance Diva, Maddy Barone, and her friend, Dossie. Mima (also a Romance Diva) came in a little while later. They went to the mystery party at Duffy Brown's and couldn't stop talking about the dresses Maddy made for the party. If you didn't know, Maddy is an excellent seamstress, and the dresses she made were beautiful.

The next day, Friday, my hubby and I helped stuff goodie bags. That's another highlight of the Get Together. Not only do you get to see all the swag first as you fill the bags, but you get to have fun with all the other volunteers while doing it!

Registration was later that day, followed by pizza! You're probably wondering why I get so excited over pizza, but we don't eat it that much, so it's another highlight! We sat with Barb (we met her the first time we went and have been friends ever since - she's also on my street team!), Maddy and Dossie, and Robyn Bachar and Christine Lawrence, two other Divas. After that, it was time for the book signing. Again, another highlight of the weekend! I love meeting everyone and talking to readers. I got to meet my wonderful FB friend Leslie as well as another street team member, Kimberly! I also got to sit next to Moni, so that made it extra fun! Oh, and my cowboy ducks (to do with my cowboy romances) were a huge hit! Later that night, we hung out with author Renee Vincent and Becke Martin Davis, and lots of other authors and readers.

We did some more hanging out on Saturday, meeting some more readers and going to an excellent marketing workshop taught by the very cool and very knowledgeable Sheila Clover from COS Productions. Then it was time for dinner with Barb and two new readers we met, Valerie and Barbara (who won my raffle basket!) After, we hung out with the newest members of my street team, Janet and Cindy! I have to say, they're awesome!

We had a great time and met a ton of fabulous people - some of whom I'm sure I forget to mention. I can't wait until next year so we can get to know everyone even better!

Oh, and if were friends on FB, I've got lots more pics!

*hugs*

I'm Having Fun in the Sun

By the time you read this, I'll be on my way home from Bermuda. Our older boys surprised us with the trip for our anniversary, and my brother came to stay at the house to take care of everything and everyone while we're gone. Do you think he'll notice if we stay a bit longer?

I did turn in my first manuscript in 2 years before we left. Now I wait with my fingers crossed that my new editor likes it.

Wait, I can't pack with my fingers crossed. You may be reading this as I return, but as I'm typing it, I still have to pack. Hot Damn, I'm going to Bermuda! See you when I get back.

Laura Kaye: Seduced by the Vampire King

It's my last post here on Naughty Author Chicks, and what better way to go out with a bang than host the lovely, insanely talented Laura Kaye? She's here to talk about her newest erotic paranormal romance, Seduced by the Vampire King.

**Giveaway: One commenter who leaves their email address will win an ebook of Seduced by the Vampire King**

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’d love to! And thanks for hosting me here! I write paranormal, contemporary and erotic romance and my newest release, Seduced by the Vampire King, is my 7th book. I’m also a wife, mom of two young girls (ages 8 and almost 6), college history professor, total vampire addict, and Marylander!

(As a side note, it turns out Laura and I have A LOT in common. Our kids are the same ages. We both hold degrees in history and archaeology, and we were both softball pitchers. Plus we both write steamy romances! Hello, can you say kindred spirits?) When did you first begin writing novels?
I started writing fiction almost four years ago. I had a head injury that left me with a new creative streak demanding I try my hand at writing a novel. Three months later, I had a draft of my first manuscript, which became my vampire romance, Forever Freed. It’s been very gratifying that FF has gone on to garner a number of award wins and finals—as my first book, it’ll always hold a special place in my heart!

I'm glad you're okay now after the injury, but that story makes me want to go bang my head into something :) (maybe THAT'S what I've been missing?) Please tell us about Seduced by the Vampire King (isn't the cover gorgeous?)
It's the second book in my Vampire Warrior Kings series. It offers a play on an enemies-to-lovers trope by pairing a king who only wants vengeance with a human woman who has fled 5,000 miles from home to escape her destiny in the service of vampires.

Here’s the blurb:
American exchange student Kate Bordessa has fled to Russia to escape her family's hopes that she'll become one of the Proffered, human women who feed and mate with elite vampire warriors. But when she stumbles upon a wounded vampire in the streets of Moscow, she's instinctively driven to protect him--and feels an undeniable spark of desire.

Grieving over the deaths of his brothers, Vampire Warrior King Nikolai Vasilyev has thrown himself into battling his enemies, focused only on vengeance. Until the attack that brought him to Kate. Their sexual attraction explodes into a night of uncontrolled passion--a night that marks them as mates. Is their connection strong enough to convince them to embrace a destiny neither of them was expecting?

Having read some of your hotter books already, I cannot wait to get my hands on this one. Tell us more about this series!
There are two books so far in the Vampire Warrior Kings series, In the Service of the King and Seduced by the Vampire King. Though they all take place in a world where seven remaining vampire warrior kings have united with an elite group of humans to fight an evil horde of immortals called the Soul Eaters, the books are mostly stand alone.

What do you love the most about this particular book?
Besides the characters, which are always my first love, I particularly love the dungeon sex scene! LOL Seriously. Sexy times. Dungeon. What more do I need to say???

Which character is your favorite?
As much as I love Nikolai—and I do, he’s incredibly sexy and tortured and alpha—I really love the heroine Kate in this story. She is totally kick ass—she keeps her head together in incredibly difficult situations, saves Nikolai’s life, and stands up to his warriors. She’s one of my favorite heroines ever!

What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Drafting the story is my favorite. I write by the seat of my pants and don’t always have an idea of what’s going to happen until it happens. That process of discovery is almost the same experience the reader has when reading, and I love that! Sometimes I’m like, where the heck did that come from???

I so cannot relate to that, lol. I always struggle with the drafting part. What is the hardest part of the writing process for you?
Well, besides the fact that I suck at plotting at a story before I write it, I find revising difficult. Once the book is in my head a certain way, it’s challenging to see it in a new way. Though I have no question that a good editor makes the difference between a passable book and a really good one!

How long does it generally take you to complete a book?
Depending on the length of the book, how well the story’s cooperating, and what’s going on in my real life, it can take me anywhere from 4-8 weeks, on average, to draft a book. Sometimes it takes longer, but I generally shoot to write 2-3,000 words a day, which makes it possible to hit 75-80K in that time frame.

Holy cow. Way to make a girl feel lazy, Laura! So, do you map everything out ahead of time, or do you like to be surprised along with the characters as the story unfolds?
Not at all. Total surprise. And I love that experience!

What are you working on now?
I’m writing the follow-up story to my recent contemporary romance release Her Forbidden Hero. The heroine’s brother from that story will get his own book, tentatively slated to release in September from Entangled’s new hot imprint line called Brazen.

What will you be working on next?
Next I’ll write the third book in the Vampire Warrior Kings series, which will be set in Tromso, Norway. I’m very excited to play in that setting!

Where can we find you?

Excerpt from the Dungeon Sex Scene:
His tongue, his thigh, his eyes, those little sounds of masculine appreciation—it was all too much. “Oh, God, Nikolai. You have to…” She shook her head, unable to control her breathing, or her body. “You have to stop, or I—”
“Not yet.” He pulled his leg away.
She whimpered and flexed off the bars.
The corner of his mouth curled up as he healed her with one last long, languid stroke of his tongue.
“No, no. I have to. Please.” She squirmed and ground her belly against his cock. Despite her general inexperience, her body acted on its own instinct, seemingly knowing what, or whom, would bring her the relief and release she nearly screamed for.
“You have to what, angel?”
She hesitated for a few short, quick heartbeats. “I have to...” The word on the tip of her tongue, she clenched her thighs together, burning for the friction he’d given to her moments before. “Oh, God.”
“You have to come, yes?” he whispered against her ear. Kate nodded, her stomach flipflopping at his tone, full of sin and satisfaction. One hand fell to her jeans, tugged at the zipper, ripped the denim open. “I want to wear you on my skin,” he said.
Gently but firmly, he slid his fingers under the band of her panties.
The rough pads of his fingertips slid into the soft hair at the top of her mound, and Kate moaned and grabbed the closest bar with her free hand to keep from falling. He kicked at the inside of her shoe. “Open.”
Pressed against the iron bars of her dungeon cell, Kate spread her legs.

Whoa! *fans self and hits "buy" button*

Dance as Inspiration

What is wonderful about being an artist is that even if you do not see, hear, taste, touch the world through the same medium, you can feel it in your soul when other artists try to describe what they do or why they do it. You understand as much as is possible to understand the unique and beautiful madness that other person experiences. That's what happened to me when I saw the above podcast about the evolution of dance.

Art of all types inspires my writing.

Laughter goes a long way

By: Casey Crow

I've had a really stressful week to put it mildly regarding a personal matter so I've decided to treat myself to a little "happy" (I kinda already the gourmet cupcake I bought today though). But y'all get the wonderful priviledge of experiencing my joke telling. Now that statement alone should make you laugh because anyone who knows me knows I'm the WORST joke teller ever. Too bad. I'm cheering myself up, remember?

Joke #1 This is the one I made up all by myself.

Knock knock.
Who's there?
Alaska.
Alaska who?
I don't know, but I'll ask her.

Okay, I know. Stop rolling your eyes. I promise there are no more I came up with.

Joke #2
What's the only kind of movie a pirate will watch?
"ARRRGH"

Joke #3
How much does it cost for a pirate to get his ears pierced?
A Buck-an-ear

Joke #4
This man goes to his attorney and says, "Put a stipulation in my will that my wife only gets my money if she remarries within a month."
Attorney asks, "Why such an odd request?"
Man says, "I want somebody to be sorry I died."

Alright, you're turn. Make me laugh :)

Reinventing Myself...again

When I first started writing, I knew a pen name was a brand for authorsso I chose very carefully. I got my start by teaming up with a friend and we became Cassidy Kent. After a string of successful eBook contracts and releases we decided to go our separate ways. Of course, I had to reinvent myself. I had to make sure my voice would be distinct and naturally me. I used my real name Jax to start a new brand that would allow me to write sensual (erotic) romances and mainstream contemporaries. I've been lucky with building that brand but in time, I realized that I also enjoy writing non-erotic stories.

These days authors are encouraged to write in different genres but I recall a time when agents and editors discouraged genre hopping. Now with the swift changes in the publishing industry, this means more opportunities for authors...and more chances for me to branch out in my own writing...

I suppose I love the challenge of writing different genres. It's a great way to strengthen my writing style and voice, as well as allowing me to go outside my comfort zone. For years, I've been kicking around a few women's fiction and young adult ideas, but they were put on the back burner while I buried myself in a series of paranormal and contemporary proposals. But I've never forgotten about those concepts and now I can pick them back up. These past few months I decided to just go for it and started my YA proposal as J.J. Wynn. Since YA is new territory for me, I thought I'd test the waters by self pubbing a story that was initially sold to a small press but I ended up holding onto. I've had it on my harddrive for three years and waited until I was absolutely certain I would write in this genre. It's a very sweet love story that is a sort of ode to those G-rated teenage (Sweet Dream series) romances that I'd read in middle through high school. It definitely isn't as dark and angsty as the YA's I'm sending to my agent but it's a story I'm very proud of. The eBook release is set for June 16thbarring any setup issues. By the end of the month it should be available in print. I figured it was the best way to get my feet wet. In addition to the very sweet stories, I plan on releasing some YAs that will be more in line with what I'll be writing...

If you're really curious, you can check out my site at www.jjwynn.com  I'm totally stoked about all this new adventure! Cross your fingers for me...

You Got to Have a J-O-B

W 2My six-year-old daughter came to me last Friday and asked me how old she had to be before she could get married. My first response was 65! But I caught myself at the last minute and explained that there wasn’t a specific age, but there were certain criteria she and her prospective spouse had to meet before they could marry. As I hit third gear in my dissertation she interrupted and told me she “couldn’t remember all that”. Chagrined—because there were some serious nuggets of wisdom in there!—we broke it down to four things she must have without fail before she became someone’s wife: GLEE

God
Love
Education
Employment

After I explained to her that education is what she learns in school, not a song she heard a lady sing on TV (don’t ask, I have no clue what she meant by that or where she got it), we had the acronym down. It’s a very simplified equation because, of course, there are waaaay more variables. But I figure the ones like, Check out his father and see what he will look like in twenty years, or Make sure he has good credit, or even, Have your cousin the cop run a criminal background check should wait for when she’s older.

In writing romance novels, unless it’s an inspirational, we don’t tend to have God as a central feature of the story (the screams of Oh God! Oh God! don’t count!). But the other three…most definitely. Especially employment. For me, a hero’s job factors in to whether I’ll pick up a book or not. It tells me a lot about the character without even opening the book. My personal taste runs toward alpha men, not beta. So I’ll read a book about a wounded Marine quicker than a story with a professor as the hero—unless he’s really a kick-ass Marine masquerading as a professor to infiltrate the university whose Humanities Department happens to be a stealth training ground for terrorists with evil ambitions of ruling the world! *Evil cackle* Okay…got carried away.

For instance, a multi-millionaire businessman would have to possess an element of ruthlessness along with his scary intelligence. And if he’s a bachelor—in a romance novel of course he is!—he would also be cynical and careful not to wear his heart on his sleeve because there are people and women who would use him for what he has instead of love and accept him for the man he is. Or another favorite of mine is the artist. I love a musician, a painter—or tattoo artist—or an author. They cansexy highland warrior be broody, dominant, single-minded, talented, focused. And see-xxx-yy. To be a success in such competitive fields requires determination and grit. But there’s also the innate sensitivity that makes them who they are—that enables them to create beauty. And what about the warrior. Sigh. Whether he’s wrapped in a kilt, clothed in leather or has the Molotov Cocktail of human and leopard DNA, a warrior is a J-O-B that screams confidence, sacrifice, strength, mercilessness, protective.

So those are just a few of my favorite W-2 earners…well the warrior doesn’t have one but he should! What are some of yours?
