Summer is here! Great...

Wednesday marked the official first day of summer at my house since school got out at 11:00. And do you know what happened at 11:21? First fight between the 7 and 9 year old. Then again three more times before bedtime. Apparently none of my speeches about how there would be no fighting all summer long OR constant video games fell on deaf ears. And can I just point out that I've been giving the speech oh-so-casually for a week in preparation for summer? (Um... the speech today wasn't so nice I have to admit.)

My point is, I'm going crazy already! I can't get any work done, forget going to the gym, and it's not like I have the money to send them to camp after camp so how do you keep your kiddos entertained, occupied or out of your hair for a few hours? Luckily, the pool opens next week, but even that's going to get old soon. I'd love some fresh ideas!

LOL! This should have been my post, Casey! Yesterday was my daughter's first day home and today I have both daughter and son. I got a movie last night in preparation for today, but after that I'm counting on rope and handcuffs! LOL!

Oh, Miss Casey, I feel your pain. I've got a 6 y.o. and an 8 y.o.

I love them both dearly, but I'm already nervous about summer holidays this year. School up here doesn't let out until the end of June, so I've got a few weeks left to figure something out.

I've got big guy enrolled in two camps (but my God they're expensive!) and some golf lessons. I'm on deadline right now and so I plan to take my laptop with me and work in the parking lot during his lessons. Little guy I'm not too sure what to do with.

Mine fight like crazy too in a constant power struggle. I've enrolled big guy in a summer reading club through our local library, but that can only go so far. I'm going to try to get my word count in first thing in the morning so I have most of the day free with them for little adventures/excursions.

If you come up with any good ideas, please pass them on!

I'm so glad to be past that stage with my kids! We made weekly lists of things to do - one day a movie and ice cream, one day lour local science center, another day we'd do some sort of inexpensive craft. As long as there was some structured event every day, they seemed okay with filling the hours between. Good luck!

We don't get out until the end of June here either, thank god! Picture teenage boys thinking it's funny to slam each other into walls, etc. Oh, and let's not forget the rock band in the basement. Wish I were talking about the video game, but that's a whole 'nother issue.

you know what, tho? All in all still more manageable than when they were younger. Good luck!

I feel your pain. All my nieces and nephews like to drop by daily and they are constantly fighting. I have to play referee at least a dozen times before they leave (ages 7-12. I can't lock my door or they'll bang on it so there's nothing I can do until they leave. Hope you are able to squeeze in that time :)

My 7 and 10 year old have camp most of the summer. I'm a lucky mommy this time around. Usually they have weeks worth of gaps, but this summer I got my act together. I am so not creative with filling their days. It takes a village. Sometimes someone else's village is nice.
