Romance Writer Tunes

Ever get a song stuck in your head? A catchy tune, fun lyrics, anything can etch a song on your brain and drive you insane. Being a writer of romance, I latch on to songs that sing about my profession. One that’s gotten me lately is Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.
But not for the usual reasons. It is catchy and all the talk about writing a bad romance definitely got my attention. But what made me replay the lyrics in my head over and over was the glaring line of atrocious grammar.

“You and me could write a bad romance.”

Um, yeah, you could. It would be REALLY bad because you don’t know basic grammar.
Now don’t get me wrong – I love Lady Gaga. From her ability to pump out hit after hit to her very vocal support of any and all alternative lifestyles to the way she rocks a dress made out of steak. I think she’s awesome, except for her grammar.

Before Bad Romance came out, my favorite writerly song was the Beatles' Paperback Writer. As many times as I listen to this classic, it never grows stale.

What about you? Do you have any favorite songs about romance books, writers or the like?

I love her song as well. And it's perfect that she uses incorrect grammar. I'm not sure I have another writerly song, but I do find this one appropriate. And because I write kink and the video and lyrics are pretty kinky, I find it more appropriate.

I have an entire playlist with writing songs - used to make mix cds for some of my writerly friends. A couple of the songs from it are "Blue American" by Placebo, "I'll Be a Writer" by Soltero, and "Dear Author" by Darker My Love.

I have a playlist as well, that gets me in the mood. And many times, those songs get referenced in my books. "The Way You Look Tonight" is one of my favorites, although I have another soft spot for "Leader of the Band"

I love Lady Gaga's music :) I can't think of any writerly romance songs but I do have certain songs I'll listen to when writing in specific genres. And now I'm totally singing Bad Romance, lol!

Michelle - I love that kinky angle to Bad Romance, too!
Thanks for the song ideas, Chris. I'll have to make one of those CD mixes for myself.
Terry - I love Leader of the Band - so sweet and sad.

Katie - that's a good earworm to have, huh? I love that song.

My favourite song about writers is My Baby Loves A Bunch of Authors by Moxy Fruvous. It's a little obscure, but fun.

I hardly listen to music while writing or otherwise, and don't know of any writerly songs off hand. My go to singer is Michael Buble. He has such a romantic voice, it doesn't matter what he sings.

KC - okay, you've piqued my curiosity. I'm going to have to search for that one.

Brenda - I don't listen as I write either, I must have silence. But I love the music for workouts, etc.
