Love in Quotations

We all run across them. Notable quotations that strike a cord in our soul. In which we recognize some basic Truth in the universe. I have a file of them and I love to drag them out from time to time and sigh over their words. They provide inspiration and I believe feed the muse in all of us. Does that happen for you? Do you use the feeling that bubbles up from an inspirational quote?

As a romance writer the quotations related to love hit me hardest. I'll share a few I've run across most recently. Add your favorites to the comments and let's compare. I'm always in need of more inspiration.

"Tell me who you love, and I'll tell you who you are." -- Creole proverb

"I've been holding out my hand for a long time now, so stop making me wait and reach for it."
--unknown

"The only difference between graffiti and philosophy is the word fuck." --anonymous
(okay, that's not a love quote, but I was amused)

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because that is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being 'in love' which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two." -- St. Augustine

Two Trees...
"A portion of your soul has been
entwined with mine
A gentle kind of togetherness, while
separately we stand.
As two trees deeply rooted in
separate plots of ground,
While their topmost branches come together,
Forming a miracle of lace
against the heavens."
--Janet Mills

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical may be madness. To surrender dreams, this may be madness. To seek treasures where there is only trash...Too much sanity may be madness, and maddest of all is to see life as it is and not as it should be." --Miguel De Cervantes, Don Quixote de la Manc

And to end on a light note--- Charles Bukowski said it best: "Sexual intercourse is kicking death in the ass while singing." (okay, not love, but that other wonderful pastime)

So what's in your quotation file?

What a good Monday morning post! I love St. Augustine's - and so does my man (after I held him down and made him listen;-)

Thanks Wynter. I loved that one too. Do you have anything we can post additionally?

LOL! I have to admit I'm kinda partial to the graffiti/philosophy quote! That's hilarious! One of my absolute favorite quotes about writing is "Good reading is damn hard writing." You got that right!!

Awesome post!

Thanks Naima. I like the graffiti quote as well. And you are absolutely spot on about "Good reading is damn hard writing." Speaking of that, back to the grind.
