Like many writers who enjoy a sexy hero, witty repartee and a murder to solve, I love the TV Show CASTLE.
Every once in a while Richard Castle sits down for a poker game with every writer's dream team: James Patterson, Michael Connelly and Stephen J. Cannell.
The poker game is missing a player...
Stephen J. Cannell, one of the greats, has left us.
Mr. Cannell was the T.V. writer-producer of such hit shows as The A-Team, The Rockford Files, 21 Jump Street and the author of the Shane Scully novels. There's a wonderful tribute to him at http://www.cannell.com/
Back in 2007, my local Orange County RWA chapter invited Stephen J. Cannell to be our main speaker. Anyone who was there will never forget it.
I still have the notes I took that day...
And the video.
I also had the opportunity to do an interview with him.
So as a special tribute to Mr. Cannell, here is the video interview I did with him that morning. He was a great friend to my local chapter and to all writers everywhere.
Best,
Jina

PS -- I had originally scheduled the second episode of my Berlin Sex Diary audio/video series for today. It will be re-scheduled for October 13th. Please stop by then!

Excellent post, Jina.
When I heard, I got a lump in my throat.
He will be missed!
Ash
What a great interview chock full of terrific advice. Thanks for posting.
So true, Ash. He was a charming man who overcame many obstacles to achieve success. Thank goodness his work as a writer lives on...
You're right, Wynter, about the great advice. It was amazing to hear him speak at our meeting! What I love about the video is that his advice to writers is so true. We live in such a fast-paced world we often feel we must rush into writing the book...Stephen's advice is good to hear.
Oh wow, I hadn't heard that he'd died. What a great loss. I grew up with his shows, and let's face it, he discovered Johnny Depp.
Brilliant man all around.
Thank you, Dalton, for your heartfelt comment re: Stephen Cannell. A great loss, indeed. But his work lives on...
