Bringing back the fun

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned on an author's loop how I'd lost the passion for writing love scenes. I got a lot of support from them both on the loop and privately. I was surprised how many writers have gone through this.

The advice I received the most was, "Write something different for a while." I had nothing different in my brain and edits to do, so I went slogging along.

A few days ago I was asked to participate in an anthology that required no sex scenes and sounded like so much fun I gave a resounding and enthusiastic yes! I sat down and immediately wrote two stories for it! Okay, one was a rewrite of an old story, but the other one flowed out of me in no time. The book is already agented and now we're hoping for a bidding war. LOL.

I was surprised by how this little project rejuvinated me. The editor even said my enthusiasm was infectious! I guess my cohorts were right. Sometimes a little change can make a big difference.

This coming Monday I have a free read coming from Cerridwen Press, the mainstream imprint of Ellora's Cave. It's also something I wrote a long time ago and tweaked to suit. My editor (who usually enjoys hot, hot hot) said it was a beautiful story and she loved it. That's almost as good as money to me.

So, if you're in the mood for something different...not my usual paranormal comedy, but something a bit inspirational that's 75% true, come by the Cerridwen website and download Most Unpopular Workday of the Year.

Hi Ash! Can't wait to read it, But I do love the Hot Hot Hot too A LOT! I hope it comes back to you, or you know what maybe it's just not what your meant to write since you enjoy other things so much and they came so easy to you. You gotta make yourself happy first! I personally thinking writing the sex scenes would be the funnest part, I often want more from the sex scenes I read and wished I could write them. lol

Hugs, Christine

Very reassuring, Ash, as any writer gets burnt on one aspect or another at some time. Wonderful that you could find new energy.

I expect I'll come back to the heat, Christine. I love it too. Without it, what good is a romance? LOL

I totally get the advice about doing something different. Sometimes that is all it takes for a kick-start. And congrats on finding a project that so excited you. That always comes through.
