Almost Release Day

Well, it's not a release day for me, but it's almost here. This coming Friday, July 23 is THE DAY my first Quickie, Getting Even with Warren will be released from Ellora's Cave. I wrote this story in a most unconventional way. The opening paragraph came to me one day so I wrote it down. I fell in love with it!
Problem: I didn't have a story idea for it. This has never happened to me before. Usually I have at least a vague notion what sort of story I will be writing, then I work on the opening hook. So I was baffled. I tucked the paragraph away for future use (because I was in the middle of writing something else, of course).

Weeks passed. I opened the file I'd saved simply as "Paragraph." Then just as suddenly, as I stared at the screen, the entire story filled my head. I saw it play out like a movie. So I kind of feel like this one was a gift from the muse. Here's the blurb:

Widow Macy Halstead learned of her much older husband’s voracious appetite for cheating shortly before his death. Now it’s too late to get back at him. When she meets his bi-racial illegitimate son at the funeral, a mutual attraction flares. She leaves with him and the two share a night of hot passion.

Alex Jackson set out to get back at the father who treated him like dirt. Bedding his old man’s widow fit the bill—until he forgets his reasons and realizes he really likes Macy. But after a steamy fling, she seems to have second thoughts. Can they overcome their initial agendas and explore the possibility of a relationship?

And in case you want to read that paragraph and a little of what came after, you can find an excerpt here.

Best thing about a Quickie - awesome price, only $2.49. To celebrate the release, I will give one commenter a copy -- but don't expect it until Friday.

On another note, I just signed a contract on my 6th book for Ellora's Cave, Rude, Nude and Socially Unacceptable. Gotta love the title! But more details on that another time.

Update: Winner of my book giveaway is Sherry! Please email me. Wynter @ WynterDaniels.com.

Congrats on the almost release. I love it when stories come to me like that, some sort of magic unfolding triggered by nothing you can predict. Love the excerpt too.

I have a mystery short story that arose after years of wanting to use a line of Star Trek dialogue in a story. Love how there are so many different ways the ideas appear and gel.

Congrats on the release!

Congrats on the upcoming release! And you know I love your newest title! Congrats on that contract too :) You're on fire woman.

Congratulations on your almost release. The excerpt was very good. Sometimes all I want to read is a short story because I don't have the time to get into a longer book.

Thanks, Michelle. Feels like a gift when those stories happen.

Terry - I know the story you;re talking about - I think. The red shirt?

Glad you liked the blurb, Flchen1.

Thanks you, Savannah, from one on fire chick to another;-)

Sherry - I know the feeling. I love short stories because I am a slow reader and I don't have much free time. It's great to be able to finish a whole story in one or two sittings.

Wynter, congrats on your new EC release! Sounds hot!

Re: writing--your muse had to take time to develop the story before speaking to you. It's part of the process and something you can't predict or hurry along.

Think of it like dominoes in slow motion. You start it rolling and your thought process gets going...it takes a while for everything to fall into place, but it eventually does.

I think you're right, Jina. It actually worked out well because the beginning came to me at an inconvenient time to start a new story. The rest came when it was convenient!

Jeez woman, look at you go! I'm working on something right now for EC but I'm not sure how long it's going to be. Quickies are great sometimes ;)

Good luck with your story, Kaylea.
